Medical Disclaimer

Important — Please Read Before Using This Website

Everything published on pennsylvaniamarijuanacards.com — including articles, blog posts, condition descriptions, eligibility guides, FAQs, and any other written or visual content — is provided for general educational and informational purposes only. None of it constitutes medical advice, a medical diagnosis, a clinical recommendation, or a treatment plan of any kind.

By using this Website, you acknowledge and agree that you have read this Medical Disclaimer and that you will not rely on any content published here as a substitute for professional medical guidance from a qualified, licensed healthcare provider.

We Are Not a Medical Provider

Pennsylvania Marijuana Cards is a patient education and physician referral platform. We are not a medical practice, hospital, clinic, pharmacy, or any kind of licensed healthcare facility. We are not affiliated with the Pennsylvania Department of Health or any other government health agency.

We do not employ physicians. We do not practice medicine. We do not diagnose medical conditions. We do not recommend specific treatments, medications, or dosages. We do not tell patients whether they will or will not qualify for a medical marijuana certification — that determination belongs entirely to an independent licensed physician.

The independent physicians available through our platform are licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and are individually registered with the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Office of Medical Marijuana under the Medical Marijuana Act (Act 16 of 2016). Those physicians make all clinical decisions independently. Nothing we publish, display, or communicate to you should be interpreted as influencing or overriding a physician’s independent professional judgment.

Not a Substitute for Professional Medical Advice

The information on this Website is not intended to replace a consultation with a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, or other qualified healthcare professional. No content on this site — however detailed, well-researched, or clearly written — can account for your unique medical history, current medications, existing conditions, or individual health circumstances.

Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare provider before making any decisions about your health, starting or stopping any medication or treatment, or pursuing any new medical approach. Never delay seeking professional medical advice, and never disregard it, because of something you read on this Website.

Remember: A physician evaluation through our platform is not a guarantee of certification. Only a licensed Pennsylvania physician can determine whether you qualify for a medical marijuana certification under Pennsylvania law — and that determination is made based on your individual medical history during your private telehealth consultation.

No Doctor-Patient Relationship

Your use of this Website, the information you read here, or any communication you send to us through our contact form or email does not create a doctor-patient relationship between you and Pennsylvania Marijuana Cards. We are not your healthcare provider. We are not your physician.

A doctor-patient relationship is established only between you and the independent licensed physician who conducts your telehealth evaluation through the Heally platform. That relationship is governed by the physician’s own professional obligations and HIPAA-compliant practices — not by Pennsylvania Marijuana Cards.

Educational Content — Scope and Limitations

1 Condition and Qualifying Criteria Information

Our descriptions of qualifying medical conditions recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health are provided for general awareness only. Reading that a condition appears on Pennsylvania’s list of 24 Serious Medical Conditions (SMCs) does not mean you personally qualify. A qualifying diagnosis must be confirmed by a licensed physician through a proper medical evaluation.

2 Program and Process Information

Information about the Pennsylvania medical marijuana program — including application steps, state fees, card validity periods, and dispensary rules — is based on publicly available information from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and is subject to change without notice. Always verify current program requirements directly with the Pennsylvania Office of Medical Marijuana before making any decisions.

3 Blog Posts and Articles

Any blog posts, guides, or articles published on this Website are written for general informational purposes only. They are not clinical studies, peer-reviewed research, or professional medical opinions. Authors of content on this Website are not acting in a medical capacity. Always cross-reference health information with a licensed medical professional before acting on it.

4 Content Accuracy and Currency

We make reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of content on this Website, but we cannot guarantee that all information is complete, current, or error-free at any given time. Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana program regulations, qualifying conditions, fees, and procedures are subject to change by the state legislature or the Department of Health. We are not liable for decisions made based on information that has since changed.

FDA and Federal Law Disclaimer

Marijuana — including medical marijuana — has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a safe and effective treatment for any medical condition, with limited exceptions (such as the FDA-approved drug Epidiolex for certain seizure disorders). The FDA has not evaluated the statements or educational content on this Website.

Marijuana remains classified as a Schedule I controlled substance under the federal Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. § 812). While Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Act (Act 16 of 2016) provides protections for registered patients from Pennsylvania state criminal prosecution, it does not provide any protection from federal law enforcement action. Holding a Pennsylvania medical marijuana card does not make you immune from federal consequences.

Drug Interactions, Side Effects, and Individual Results

Medical marijuana may interact with prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, herbal supplements, and other substances. These interactions can be significant and in some cases serious. We do not provide guidance on drug interactions, and nothing on this Website should be read as doing so.

Individual responses to medical cannabis vary considerably. Factors including body weight, metabolism, genetics, existing health conditions, other medications, and the specific form or strain of cannabis all affect how a person responds. What works for one patient may not work for another, and may even be harmful in certain combinations.

Before using medical marijuana, always discuss your full medication list, health history, and any relevant concerns with your certifying physician and, where appropriate, your primary care provider or specialist.

Mental Health, Vulnerable Populations, and Special Considerations

Certain populations should exercise particular caution regarding medical cannabis use and should consult a qualified physician before pursuing a medical marijuana certification:

  • Individuals with a personal or family history of psychosis, schizophrenia, or other serious psychiatric conditions
  • Individuals currently being treated for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or PTSD — cannabis may interact with treatments for these conditions
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals — the potential risks of cannabis to fetal or infant development are not fully understood
  • Individuals under 25 years of age — research suggests cannabis may affect brain development in younger adults
  • Individuals with heart conditions, respiratory conditions, or liver disease
  • Individuals taking blood thinners, sedatives, antidepressants, anti-seizure medications, or immunosuppressants

This list is not exhaustive. If you have any doubt about whether medical marijuana is appropriate for your specific situation, always consult a licensed physician before proceeding.

No Guarantee of Physician Certification or Card Approval

Booking a consultation through Pennsylvania Marijuana Cards does not guarantee that you will receive a physician certification for medical marijuana. The certifying physician will evaluate your medical history and condition independently during your telehealth appointment and will make a clinical determination based solely on their professional medical judgment and the qualifying criteria established by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Even after a physician issues a certification, final approval of your patient ID card rests with the Pennsylvania Department of Health. We have no influence over either the physician’s clinical decision or the DOH’s administrative review of your application.

Our money-back guarantee covers only our consultation scheduling fee in the event that the physician does not certify you. It does not cover the $50 state registration fee paid directly to the Pennsylvania DOH, nor does it apply in circumstances described in our Terms and Conditions.

Driving, Operating Machinery, and Impairment

Medical marijuana can impair your ability to drive, operate heavy machinery, and perform tasks that require full attention and coordination. Pennsylvania law does not provide a blanket exemption from DUI laws for medical marijuana patients. You can be charged with driving under the influence (DUI) in Pennsylvania if you operate a vehicle while impaired by medical marijuana, even if you are a registered patient with a valid card.

Never drive, operate machinery, or engage in any activity requiring alertness while under the influence of medical cannabis. Always allow adequate time for effects to subside before operating a vehicle or performing safety-sensitive activities.

Workplace, Legal, and Lifestyle Considerations

Holding a Pennsylvania medical marijuana card does not protect you from all legal, employment, or lifestyle consequences. You should be aware of the following before pursuing a medical marijuana certification:

1 Employment

Pennsylvania employers are not required by law to accommodate medical marijuana use. Under Act 16 of 2016, employers may still enforce drug-free workplace policies and may discipline or terminate employees who test positive for marijuana — including those with a valid medical card. If your job involves safety-sensitive duties, government contracts, or federal oversight, the risks are particularly significant.

2 Federal Employment and Security Clearances

Federal employees and individuals with security clearances remain subject to federal law. Using medical marijuana — even legally under Pennsylvania law — may jeopardize federal employment, active military service, or a security clearance. Consult a licensed attorney before proceeding if this applies to you.

3 Firearms

Under federal law, individuals who use or are addicted to marijuana are prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms or ammunition, regardless of state law. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has confirmed that this prohibition applies to medical marijuana users. Holding a Pennsylvania medical marijuana card may affect your right to own or purchase firearms.

4 Federal Benefits and Housing

Medical marijuana use may affect eligibility for certain federally assisted housing programs, federal student loans, and other federal benefit programs. If you receive or rely on federal benefits, consult an attorney or program administrator before pursuing a medical marijuana card.

5 Interstate Travel

Pennsylvania does not offer reciprocity to out-of-state medical marijuana card holders, and you may not legally travel across state lines with medical marijuana — even to other states where it is legal. Transporting marijuana across state lines is a federal offense regardless of the laws of the states involved. See the Pennsylvania DOH FAQ on this topic for more detail.

Insurance Coverage Disclaimer

Medical marijuana is not covered by health insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid in Pennsylvania or at the federal level. The cost of physician consultations, state registration fees, and medical cannabis products purchased at licensed dispensaries are all out-of-pocket expenses. We make no representation that any of these costs will be reimbursable through any insurance plan.

Our $159 new patient consultation fee and $149 renewal fee are charged for our scheduling and facilitation services only. The Pennsylvania state patient ID card fee of $50 is paid directly to the Pennsylvania DOH and is a separate expense. Neither fee is an insurance-covered service.
